Any worker who was laid off from Meta since November has been allowed to reapply for available jobs, typically through a specific "alumni portal." The company shed 25% of its workforce in multiple rounds of cuts that ended in May. Now, dozens of such workers have been rehired, mainly since June, according to three people familiar with the company. Meta declined to comment for this story. Most of Meta remains on a de facto hiring freeze, with headcount allocation and hiring capacity reduced for the foreseeable future in line with CEO Mark Zuckerberg's "Year of Efficiency." Still, the company has quietly picked up hiring for certain areas. Meta is seeing improvements in its all-important advertising business as it's been retaining more users and even successfully launched a Twitter rival with Threads on Instagram, all of which pleased investors. Continued here Inflation rises for the first time in 12 monthsâ€"but it’s not as bad as it looks - CNBC    After a year of monthly declines, the year-over-year inflation rate has risen from 3% to 3.2%, still well above the Federal Reserve's target of 2%, according to the Labor Bureau's latest consumer index report. The increase is partly due to the way energy costs are accounted for in the report, as year-over-year inflation no longer reflects the dramatic climb down from peak prices in June 2022, when average gas prices hit $5 per gallon. While rising oil prices are an ever-present concern, recent energy price increases have been "amplified in the year-over-year inflation numbers," says Kurt Rankin, senior economist at PNC Financial Services Group.
