Here's what it should really be - Fortune Well    Phew! you say, because your bloodwork just came back and your doctor said your cholesterol is “normal.” But hold on. Having a normal cholesterol level in a society where it’s normal to drop dead of a heart attack isn’t necessarily something to celebrate. With heart disease the top killer of men and women, we definitely don’t want to have normal cholesterol levels. We want to have optimal levels—and not “optimal” by arbitrary laboratory standards, but optimal for human health. Normal LDL cholesterol levels are associated with the buildup of atherosclerotic plaques in our arteries even in those with so-called optimal risk factors by current standards: blood pressure under 120/80, normal blood sugars, and total cholesterol under 200. If you went to your doctor with those kinds of numbers, you’d probably get a gold star and a lollipop, or at least a pat on the back. But when ultrasound and CT scans were used to actually peek inside the bodies of patients boasting those numbers, overt atherosclerotic plaques were detected in 38%. Maybe those digits ain’t so optimal after all. Perhaps we should define an LDL cholesterol level as optimal only when it no longer causes disease. (What a concept!) How would we go about figuring that out? Continued here You Might Like Tipping once rewarded good service. Now it determines how consumers are treated - CNBC    Roughly three-quarters of adults said the quality of the service they receive is a major factor in deciding whether and how much to tip, according to a recent report by the Pew Research Center. However, now consumers are prompted to tip in advance — and if they aren't generous, the service they receive could suffer. One loves action. The busier she feels, the more energetic she gets. She doesn't burn down; she burns brighter. Get her going, and she doesn't stop, often for days. The other person likes to be busy, but within limits. He's fine with a tightly scheduled morning, but struggles if the productivity pressure continues after lunch; things he planned for later in the day or evening, like working on a side project, fall by the wayside.  Continued here You Might Like TikTok Revives E-Commerce Ambitions in Indonesia With New Local Partnership - TIME    ByteDance Ltd.’s TikTok has struck an agreement to invest in a unit of Indonesia’s GoTo Group and cooperate on an online shopping service, pioneering a template for e-commerce beyond Southeast Asia’s biggest economy. The Chinese-owned video service has agreed broadly to work with GoTo’s Tokopedia across several areas rather than compete directly with the Indonesian platform, people familiar with the pact said. The pair aim to announce details of that tie-up as soon as next week, the people said, asking not to be identified disclosing a deal before it’s formalized.  GoTo’s shares erased morning declines to climb as high as 5% in Jakarta. While the two companies have reached an informal agreement, the final details of that alliance are getting hammered out and could change before announcement, the people said. The pact is also subject to regulatory approval and could still fall through, they added. Continued here
