Switching Jobs? Heres How to Make Sure You Wont Regret It. No one wants to feel regret after taking a new job. And yet, it’s something that happens often. In this piece, the author outlines steps you can take to avoid a painful career misstep: 1) Before you begin to think through your decision, outline your career goals and criteria for acceptance, laying out a roadmap for how you will evaluate each element. 2) During your interview, ask exploratory questions about employee engagement, growth potential, expectations, metrics, challenges faced, and how long people historically stay in their roles. 3) Beware of your cognitive biases as you try to make a decision. 4) And finally, before accepting an offer, make it a priority to network with employees who work for the company you’re interested in joining, and get their view of what it’s really like on the inside.

Ben Avraham wasn’t yet Jewish himself; he wasn’t even “Ben Avraham”, for that matter. His Anglican parents gave him the name Moses Walison – still his official name – and they raised him as a churchgoing boy. In this, they were no different from millions of others in their part of the country. One of the first demographic details anyone learns about Nigeria is that while people living up north are predominantly Muslim, those down south are just as overwhelmingly Christian. The minibuses sputtering up and down these southern highways bear slogans like “Jesus is Needful” on their back windows. On billboards, preachers hype their ministries; a prayer meeting is never just a prayer meeting – it is a “global mega powerquake” or a “harvest of miracles”. Islam and Christianity have been in Nigeria for centuries, but Judaism has none of that conspicuous history or heritage. In his childhood, Ben Avraham knew nothing about Judaism, and he’d only encountered Israel as a biblical name: “Israel, Abraham, all those things,” he recalled. WorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkYoure Never Going to Be Caught Up at Work. Stop Feeling Guilty About It.Many people have a to-do list so long that its not clear that theres an end to it, and when important tasks linger unfinished, its easy to start feeling guilty or ashamed about what you have not yet completed. But are those useful emotions? The answer is: it depends. Shame is almost never a useful emotion. In fact, it likely hurts your productivity. Guilt, on the other hand, can motivate you to get something done, but only if youre in a position to take action. Youre probably better off avoiding these emotions altogether, especially when youre away from the office. How? Exercise self-compassion. Focus on what you have been able to achieve. And practice acceptance. Failing to get some work completed does not make you a bad person. It just makes you a person.
