How to Spot and Develop High-Potential Talent in Your Organization Organizations typically look to past performance to identify future leaders. But an employee's track record doesn't tell you who might excel at things they haven't done before, nor does it identify early-career high potentials or people who haven't had equitable access to mentoring, sponsorship, development, and advancement opportunities. WorkWorkAmericas cheapest electric car is a ChevyThe faster EVs reach price parity with gas cars, the faster they’ll achieve mass adoption and fulfill their promise of cutting carbon emissions from transportation—the most carbon polluting sector in the US economy. Affordable EVs like the Chevy Bolt represent a step in that direction. | | WorkWhen Your Colleagues Mental Health Is on the AgendaYour manager’s demands that BIPOC attorneys create and execute diversity initiatives is even more egregious and, frankly, racist. It is not the responsibility of those attorneys to solve the conditions of their own oppression. If she wants to engage in social justice activism, she should read a book or three, and hire professionals who do this work. People of color are not magically endowed with the ability to do diversity, equity and inclusion work because of their race or ethnicity. That’s not how any of this works. Of course people are considering working elsewhere. If you do have H.R., you have to report this behavior. At the very least, consult with an employment attorney. This behavior goes well beyond micromanagement. But so often, it seems like they’re caused by bad management choices that make it more difficult to keep paying staff. People make mistakes, but those mistakes can put innocent workers in situations of financial precarity, potential deportation and limited access to healthcare. So when layoffs are made as a precaution, or a correction to mitigate past mistakes and over-hiring, it’s personal. We can expect to see some consolidation in this space and some startups are going to fare better than others. But in the long term, the pandemic served to change consumer habits. People got used to ordering groceries during lockdown and now they recognize the importance of and financial value of the time they save by not going shopping. As far as differentiating delivery startups, we’re keeping an eye on delivery startups with strong e-commerce and advertising plays and startups whose base structure doesn’t rely on realestate plays, like renting out local warehouse space.” WorkHow Olive pivoted 27 times on its way to a $4B valuation TechCrunchSean Lane co-founded Olive in 2012, and signed on Chris Olsen from Drive Capital as the company’s first investors.
