New Jersey, for instance, which has scheduled its event from Aug. 26 through Sept. 4, includes a waiver of tax on computers priced at less than $3,000. Some tax experts dismiss the events as political gimmicks, but they remain popular with shoppers. The Federation of Tax Administrators offers a state-by-state list on its website.
